I've ridden across the country myself twice: The Long Way (Washington, DC to San Francisco CA) and The Short Way (Vancouver, Canada to the Mexico border).  Someday when we meet I'll tell you why The Short Way was more fun. â€‹ I've also worked as an adventure tour guide taking families on bike tours all over the country: eating lobsters in Maine, photographing bears in Montana, and seeing orca whales in Washington State.

Have you ever noticed how many bicycles are pictured on the cover of books? Start looking at your library and bookstore... they're everywhere! On picture books, middle-grade books, young adult books, on fiction and non-fiction stories.

Every time I see a bicycle on a cover of a book, I pick it up, and if it really involves bicycles in the story, I'll read the whole thing. Come see the 100+ bike books on my Goodreads list.

There is nothing like bicycling to learn about the kindness of strangers.

Our country is filled with small towns, and those small towns are filled with good folks. I hope you get to learn that yourself someday.

The Adventure Cycling Association is the best place to start if you want to have a bike adventure of your own. This nonprofit organization inspires and empowers families and folks of all ages to travel by bicycle.

READ, RIDE, AND DREAM BIG.

I never thought I could ride more than ten miles, let alone four thousand. I'm living proof that if you dream about dipping your front wheel in a distant ocean, or biking up a mountain on a different continent, or riding to your favorite ice cream shop all on your own, bicycle adventures are possible...on and off the pages of books.
